Obtaining high quality photographs of 16,500+ Hutchinson bottles simply isn’t practical today. Our initial objective is to provide illustrations that clearly communicate bottle details. An extensive survey of long-time Hutchinson collectors indicates many of us prefer line drawings to photographs because accurate drawings often show far better bottle details, e.g. punctuation, plate mould shapes, pictures, monograms, etc. The Hutchinson Bottle Directory database is designed to accommodate scans, electronically-created illustrations, and photographs. As technology improves, we envision the implementation of 3-D or video bottle illustrations, and we expect to convert to such methodology as deemed appropriate. Initially, however, most of the Hutchinson Bottle Directory illustrations are being prepared using PC graphics software, speeding the illustration process and facilitating the production of top quality, professional drawings.
